A South Australian medical marijuana cultivation company has been created and the State Government there is showing strong support for the industry ahead of the nation’s plans to legalize MMJ this fall.

The co-founder of Australia Cannabis Corporation told InDaily he met with South Australia representatives and they gave him the approval he needs to apply for a federal license to cultivate medical marijuana in the state.

A South Australia government spokesperson told InDaily the government “welcomes the development of a medical cannabis industry, including research and development.”

The Australian Office of Drug Control released licensing and permitting guidelines for potential marijuana business owners on Sept. 30. The office will release rules on Oct. 23, and registration for licenses begins Nov. 1.

According to InDaily, the South Australian Government has shown support for interstate clinical trials of medical marijuana but said it would wait for results before moving forward legally.
