National Trends | Chapter 1 MJBIZDAILY.COM In California, sales of vape product were hit hard following the announcement of the first vape- related death in Illinois but have been on the rebound since late September. The decline has been much more significant in Washington state, as a four-month ban on the sale of flavored marijuana vape products ― some of the most popular products in Washington’s adult- use market ― went into effect in early October. In addition to Washington state, other adult-use markets have implemented bans or restrictions on the sale of marijuana vaping products, including: • Oregon, which implemented a six-month ban on flavored marijuana vaping products. • Massachusetts, which instituted a four-month ban on all marijuana vaping products. Unquestionably, the torrent of negative press surrounding vaporizers has hurt marijuana vape sales ― which was the fastest-growing segment of the cannabis industry in 2018. However, it’s not yet known if this is a temporary blip on the radar ― where spending on vape products ultimately rebounds to pre-crisis levels ― or whether it will have a long-term impact on the sales trajectory of the vape category.
