State-By-State: Legal Overview, Market Data and Outlook | Chapter 2 MJBIZDAILY.COM SUMMARY What to watch in 2020 The medical marijuana industry in New Hampshire has struggled financially in recent years, but a series of measures passed into law in the latter half of 2019 could improve business conditions in the state. Lawmakers overrode Gov. Chris Sununu’s veto of a bill eliminating the necessity for MMJ patients to have the same doctor for three months before accessing medical marijuana. Also, a law went into effect authorizing licensed MMJ businesses to open a second “satellite” dispensary in each of the state’s four designated regions. Each of these measures has the potential to improve the financial performance of the state’s four licensed marijuana businesses. Furthermore, a bill passed by the New Hampshire House of Representatives in January 2020 that adds insomnia and opioid-use disorder to the list of MMJ qualifying conditions could substantially boost patient counts if it makes it through the rest of the legislative process. Marijuana Business Opportunity Rank for 2020 C Although the state has decided to increase the number of dispensaries, all available licenses have been awarded, so companies that didn’t win one will not have an opportunity to get involved in the plant-touching side of the industry. Additional opportunities stemming from proposals to expand the list of qualifying conditions could provide avenues for ancillary businesses, but because of the state’s relatively small population and patient base, those prospects would likely be limited.
