In 2019, tax collection data indicates that more than $345 million of MMJ was sold in the state. Furthermore, this is just the first year of sales in Oklahoma, so it’s likely that these already sky-high sales figures are set for several more years of double-digit growth. The state has placed few restrictions on the industry, licensing over 4,000 growers and 1,500 dispensaries to-date. Currently, more than 234,000 patients in Oklahoma have registered for MMJ, representing nearly 5% of the state’s population. That’s already one of the highest rates of MMJ patients per-capita, and it shows no sign of slowing down. Although the high number of licensed businesses in the state mean it could be difficult for any one of them to really gain a foothold in the market, this will likely shake out in the coming years as the more efficient, sophisticated operators rise to the top.
