Cannabis Magazine to be Sold at Airports

A consumer-focused cannabis magazine announced that it will be available in airports across North America starting this week, moving marijuana further into the mainstream and giving businesses a way to reach more patients and MJ users.

Under a deal with Hudson News, the bi-monthly magazine Cannabis Now will be sold at newsstands at 50 airports in the U.S. and Canada.

The magazine said it marks the first time a marijuana publication will be distributed nationally via airports in North America.

“What we’re seeing is a paradigm shift,” Eugenio Garcia, the magazine’s publisher, said in a press release. “It is the final step in acknowledging that cannabis is has become acceptable to the mainstream community.”

Cannabis Now, which was founded in 2010, has also started a seed round of investment funding with the aim of even further expansion.

It’s the latest set of milestones for the California-based magazine, which in 2013 also became the first marijuana-centric publication that could be purchased through the Apple iTunes Store. Cannabis Now is also available through Barnes and Noble, Books-A-Million, Kroger, various dispensaries and other marijuana-related businesses.

I haven’t seen an increase in their advertising cost. Actually they are discounting heavily just to get advertisers in their magazine. Their circulation is horrible. Only 30,000 copies in total per their own rate card.

I’ve heard they are having money troubles and are offering 50% discounts on advertising on top of their already high rates. Plus they only distribute 30,000 copies in total combined with their airport circulation. I’ve seen other magazines that put out over 220,000 copies with much cheaper advertising rates. I’d say check out other publications if you want to advertise. (High Times, CULTURE Magazine, Marijuana Business Magazine)
