Denver Appoints Marijuana Policy Director

America’s marijuana capital has a new cannabis czar.

Denver Mayor Michael Hancock has appointed Ashley R. Kilroy as the city’s executive director of marijuana policy for the city and county.

According to a press release put out by the city, Kilroy will recommend, administer and implement medical and retail marijuana policies for Denver, overseeing all cannabis-related activities of various city agencies, employees, boards and commissions.

It’s one of the only such positions on a municipal level in the entire country.

Kilroy will also work outside of the city, building relationships with state and federal agencies, as well as other stakeholders in Denver’s marijuana industry. Additionally, she’ll act as an ambassador of marijuana best practices for other municipalities.

Kilroy is a longtime attorney who is also a veteran of Denver’s political scene. She previously served as deputy manager of the Department of Safety and deputy general council for Denver Public schools.
