Vicente Sederberg LLP, perhaps one of the best known marijuana legal firms in the country, has announced that it will donate $45,000 to the University of Denver’s Sturm College of Law to help support a professorship focused on marijuana law.

The professorship will “allow a Sturm College of Law faculty member to dedicate time and resources toward the development of intelligent marijuana law and policy and engage students,” and will initially be staffed by Prof. Sam Kamin, who has been studying marijuana law for six years, according to a press release.

“Our state and our school are poised to take a leadership position in this important new area of law and policy,” said Sturm’s dean, Martin J. Katz. “The rest of the country is watching. We need to do this right.”

The endowment will be spread out over three years, and come out to $15,000 per year.

Brian Vicente, one of the firm’s founding partners, is himself a graduate of Sturm. The endowment was touted as the first of its kind, with the marijuana industry directly funding such a position at a university.
