DANNY SLOAT Founder and Cultivator, AlpinStash Louisville, Colorado | Pick: Hydrofarm Titanium Precision Curved Blade Our favorite trimming device is a talented human and a pair of scissors. Old school, I know. But it doesn’t break down, and it’s the only way to go for the highest quality finished flower. I use the Hydrofarm titanium precision curved blade. Curved blades are better than straight for trimming cannabis. SPENCER BREWER Director of Cultivation, Oregrown Bend, Oregon | Pick: Chikamasa Scissors We only release hand-trimmed flower, so I’m going to say sharp Chikamasa scissors and a good crew. Skillful hand trimming is the only way to remove the sugar leaves while minimizing bruis- ing and oxidation. AUSTIN RADNEY Horticulturist/Sourcing Specialist, MagicalButter.com Port Richie, Florida | Pick: Fiskars Scissors/The Triminator Hand-trimming is very zen. I enjoy manicuring the buds to perfection using Fiskars scissors. They’re my go-to. But for larger grows – and to avoid hand cramps – I prefer The Triminator. It’s a great company that provides an amazing trimmer that is similar in style to the large-scale trimmers. But it’s been scaled down to fit on a tabletop, making it perfect for grows yielding 4-25 pounds a crop. The pollen collector is fantastic, and they even provide high-quality rosin presses to help get all the essence from your plants. SHAWN WAGENSELLER Co-Owner, Washington Bud Co. Smokey Point, Washington | Pick: Fiskars Titanium Scissors Our favorite and only device is titanium trim scissors. We prefer the titanium because they create a cleaner cut on the delicate sugar leaves. This allows us to be precise in trimming and shaping the buds minimally to maintain their fragile trichomes. This also provides us with superior trim material for both packaging our Sugar Shake bags for retail and our bulk extraction material. We trim over 110-micron silk screens to collect the golden kief and then press it into rosin. Extractors prefer the trim from the hand method, as machine trim can produce dark oils from damaged trichomes. JONATHON PELZNER VP of Partnerships, Cloud Cover Portland, Oregon | Pick: Trim Bin by HarvestMore Through trial and error, we found the Trim Bin to be the most effective and ergonomic trimming device. The simple dual-bin design – with comfortable arm grooves and 120-micron screen – allowed our trim staff to operate at a high level consistently. The bins were easy to clean and prevented loss of product due to its high walls and collection tray. I would highly suggest this product to any trim operation, regardless of size. E ach month, we survey a group of marijuana industry executives and ask them to name a favorite item – such as a strain, top-selling product or edibles ingre- dient. We welcome your suggestions for topics. Email us at editorial@mjbizdaily.com . This month, we’ve asked five cultivators to share their favorite trimmers. 14 • Marijuana Business Magazine • August 2018
