Hawaii’s two medical marijuana dispensaries are out of product just days after opening.

Maui Grown Therapies and Aloha Green, on Oahu, can’t move flower quickly enough through the state’s testing bottleneck, and with 17,000 registered patients waiting for medical cannabis, demand has quickly outpaced supply.

Maui Grown Therapies sold out of its supply on Saturday, just five days after becoming the first dispensary to open in Hawaii.

Aloha Green sold out of its initial stock three days after beginning operations. The company said in a news release it had three times the expected number of patients, with an average wait period of 1½ hours.

Maui Grown Therapies said it’s relying on the state’s testing labs “to help unclog a backlog of products so Maui patients can have access to quality-assured medicinal cannabis products.”

Maui Grown Therapies and Aloha Green both planned to close Monday and Tuesday and reopen Wednesday.
