Illinois Debuts MMJ Website With Business Info

Illinois has launched an official website for its medical marijuana program, offering an overview of the law and information for entrepreneurs interested in starting cannabis businesses.

A section titled Financial and Professional Regulation outlines the rule-making process and offers a timeline of the next steps. Other than that, the site is sparse at this point, as the state has not yet drafted regulations and rules on the industry.

But officials plan to update information frequently going forward. Eventually, the site will include overviews and links to proposed and final rules, press releases and application forms for MMJ business licenses.

Illinois passed a bill this summer that creates a four-year medical marijuana pilot program. Under the plan, the state will license 60 dispensaries and 22 cultivation sites, creating a market that could hit an estimated $100 million or more.
