A Kansas-based company will build an online portal allowing cannabis business owners to apply for and renew licenses, pay fees and taxes, and update information.

NIC USA Inc. was hired by the Oregon Liquor Control Commission to design the online system at an annual subscription fee of $80,000 with no up-front costs, The Oregonian reported.

The state must begin accepting applications from marijuana business owners by January. NIC USA already manages and operates the Oregon Department of Administrative Services web portal.

While the portal is designed for businesses and shouldn’t ruffle any feathers, Massachusetts was in hot water earlier this year as it required patients to register online for medical marijuana cards, bringing rise to complaints that those without access to the internet would be unable to obtain medical cannabis. Paper certifications were phased out in February.
