Supporters of the campaign to legalize recreational marijuana in Maine have overwhelmed their opponents in fundraising.
Backers of Question 1, as the legalization initiative is called, have raised $1.3 million this year, more than 26 times the opposition, according to the Portland Press Herald.
The legalization effort has attracted contributions from some heavy hitters.
Traveler writer and TV host Rick Steves has kicked in $50,000 to the pro-legalization effort.
Question 1 calls for a vote to legalize marijuana for adults 21 and over. Adults could possess up to 2.5 ounces of marijuana, grow their own plants and buy marijuana from licensed retail stores. The initiative would also allow marijuana social clubs and tax marijuana sales at 10%.
In September, a poll showed 53% of Maine voters favored Question 1.
