(This story has been updated to reflect sales totals for opening weekend.)

Adult-use marijuana retailers in Maine sold $94,643.38 worth of product on Oct. 9, the first day of legal sales in the state, according to preliminary figures released Monday by the state’s Office of Marijuana Policy (OMP).

Total sales for the long weekend – Friday through Monday – were $258,411.58 across 6,430 transactions, the OMP said in an update Tuesday afternoon.

Maine had eight active adult-use retail licenses when sales began, the OMP noted.

However, the regulator said only six retail stores were actually open on the first day of sales.

Retailers interviewed by Marijuana Business Daily that day reported a tight supply situation and high wholesale prices in the state’s adult-use market, leading at least one store to delay its opening plans.

The OMP said a ninth retailer received an active license on Oct. 9, but that store told the OMP it “will not open for at least a few weeks.”

Maine collected $9,464.34 in sales tax from the first day of sales and $25,841.16 over the four-day long weekend, according to the OMP’s preliminary figures.
