Marijuana Business Daily expands into Canada

Marijuana Business Daily has expanded into Canada by hiring a full-time reporter to write in-depth stories and analysis about the country’s fast-growing cannabis industry.

Matt Lamers, who has worked as a reporter and editor at newspapers and magazines in several countries, will focus on writing for Canadian marijuana business executives, investors and entrepreneurs looking to get involved in the industry.

He is based in the Toronto area.

The move marks Marijuana Business Daily’s first expansion outside the United States.

While the publication’s U.S.-based reporters have covered Canadian cannabis business developments in the past, the focus largely has been on how such moves up north affect U.S. companies and investors.

“There’s a huge need for news and business intelligence about Canada’s cannabis industry, especially with the upcoming legalization of recreational marijuana,” said Chris Walsh, vice president of editorial and strategic development for Marijuana Business Daily.

While mainstream media outlets are writing about developments largely for the general public, there’s a lack of solid business-to-business news about the Canadian marijuana industry written specifically for Canadians,” he added. “That’s about to change.”

In addition to covering regulatory and legal developments, Lamers will write Q&As with industry leaders, features that help companies grow their operations and navigate challenges, technical how-to business pieces and data-focused articles for both Marijuana Business Daily and Marijuana Business Magazine.

Marijuana Business Daily will soon launch a weekly newsletter highlighting its Canadian coverage.
