It's all about the people, baby
MJBizCon = making connections. In the next few issues of MJBizCon Buzz, we'll introduce you to some of the cool folks we met in Vegas.
Consider it networking -- but we did the small talk for you.
First, meet Amanda:
Amanda McCrary spent 7 years at Dow and longer than that at McKesson -- big corporate all the way.
Nonetheless, she jumped to cannabis for an opportunity to challenge big business HR norms.
Now Chief Citizen Officer at Common Citizen, McCrary loves the company philosophy that puts "people over product," she says.
Providing high quality cannabis to Michiganders is a high priority, but so are employees, called "citizens" at the business. “When you are a citizen of something you are part of something,” McCrary explains.
It's an approach that helped McCrary grow the business from 120 "citizens" to 320 in seven months.
Cannabis, she's discovered, needs people with know how from other industries -- like farming or lean manufacturing -- but also talent and passion. "Jumble it up and make a pie out of it," she describes.
What did she most like about MJBizCon?
“I loved the networking opportunities. I saw a lot of strong women and hearing their stories were empowering”
“My biggest takeaway" she adds, "is that everyone is still trying to figure it out. There is no playbook for the industry, and we are all kind of learning as we go.”
Great meeting you, Amanda!
