Even though Colorado and Washington state are the two oldest recreational market in the country, sales in those markets from 2017 to 2018 were up 11% and 10%, respectively. And estimates indicate that sales in overproduction-plagued Oregon increased 31% during that same time period. Nevada’s recreational sales were strong during the first full year, boosted by Las Vegas’ prominence as a global tourist destination. Sales in the Silver State breached half a billion dollars in 2018, although data indicates that monthly sales may have already reached their plateau. California has not released statewide sales data, but estimates show that the Golden State sold $1.5 billion in recreational marijuana during its first year of legal sales. California is expected to mature into a $6 billion annual market ― roughly the size of the market in Canada.
