Demand for starting material is rising in Canada as the number of federal cannabis license holders has reached a record 175. With another 1,000 applicants in the pipeline, demand for unique genetics will continue to grow. Deepak Anand, a cannabis industry expert based in Vancouver, British Columbia, said nursery license holders stand to capitalize on the growing demand for diversified starting plant material. Germany confirms marijuana licenses for domestic cultivation The German Federal Institute for Drugs and Medical Devices (BfArM) announced the final results of the domestic cultivation application process: • Five lots for Aurora Produktions. • Five lots for Aphria Deutschland. • Three lots for Demecan. The three companies have 18 months to deliver the first harvest. Contracted production for the 13 lots totals 10,400 kilograms (22,928 pounds) over a period of four years, with each lot representing 200 kilograms per year. The contracts include a clause that could allow produc- tion to increase by 10% during that period. All production will be purchased by BfArM and resold to medical marijuana manufacturers, wholesalers or pharmacies. Imports will continue to be possible.
