Marijuana delivery services are in strong demand since Nevada’s recreational cannabis sales began on July 1, with industry officials predicting more growth ahead thanks to the strength of the new adult-use market.

Armen Yemenidjian, owner of Essence dispensary in Las Vegas, told the Las Vegas Sun delivery orders have surged since adult-use marijuana became legal.

The majority of Yemenidjian’s deliveries are still to medical marijuana patients who would rather not travel to his store. But he’s anticipating more than doubling the amount of deliveries he’s making now by the end of the summer, according to the Sun, largely because of legal recreational marijuana customers.

In Nevada, cannabis delivery drivers can haul as much as 10 ounces of marijuana in a trip, making multiple deliveries possible.

Tim Conder, founder of distributing company Blackbird, told the Sun his company now has 30 employees and makes 2,000 deliveries a week, with plans to double his workforce by summer’s end.

Even as legal marijuana delivery services proliferate, Las Vegas police are reporting black market delivery businesses are growing as well. The Sun reported that 28 illegal services have been busted since Jan. 1.
