Biosynthesis – the mass production of specific cannabinoids in a lab setting – might be setting up to be the next big disruptor for the marijuana industry.
Also known as cellular agriculture, the process has been used for decades to produce specific compounds from microorganisms such as yeast.
In cannabis, the process is increasingly being used to produce THC, CBD and other cannabinoids – with results that can boast greater than 99% purity – in less time and at a lower cost than plant-based production.
