Jake Salazar, the founder and CEO of Colorado cannabis retail chain MMJ America, has been appointed to the board of directors of the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Metro Denver.
Salazar, who is of Mexican heritage, said he is “honored” to be working alongside other Hispanic business executives at the chamber and that he’ll be focusing on “fundraising and public policy” in his new role.
“To have my background in this business sitting next to some of the names on this board, it absolutely speaks to the more socially accepting aspects of what this industry has become over the years,” Salazar told Marijuana Business Daily. “Being seen as a business leader is a big honor, and I think it speaks volumes as to what people think this industry is going to be.”
MMJ America, founded in 2008, has five cannabis retail storefronts in Colorado, one in Las Vegas and another on the way in Michigan, Salazar said. The company also has four infused product manufacturing licenses in Colorado and seven cultivation operations, as well as five grow sites in Colorado and two in Nevada.
