Guernsey releases marijuana regulations, licenses first business

A self-governing British Crown dependency in the English Channel updated its licensing regulations for CBD products and the cultivation of cannabis.

Guernsey opened the door to medical cannabis and cannabidiol businesses last year by updating its Misuse of Drugs (Bailiwick of Guernsey) Law.

Celebrated won the first license last month to convert a former winery to a medical cannabis growing and processing center.

As a dependency, Guernsey is not part of the United Kingdom, nor is it a member of the European Union.

When the U.K. does eventually leave the EU, the island’s Protocol 3 – which allows for the free movement of goods – will need to be replaced by a new trade agreement.
