The Japanese government released long-awaited guidance for CBD manufacturers, marking the first step since Japan amended the Cannabis Control Act this spring to include strict THC limits for CBD products.

Dr. Yuji Masataka, Japan’s first specialist in medical cannabis, said the revised limits still could significantly impact the industry if left unchanged.

For example, the threshold for raw materials including isolate powder has now been raised from 1 part per million to 10 parts per million THC.

While the change represents a tenfold increase, it remains the strictest limit in the world and will do little to negate the concerns of cannabis operators and investors.
