In another example of enforcement actions against illicit marijuana businesses in California, nearly 141,000 plants were seized in the southern part of the state in a massive raid targeting dozens of illegal cultivation sites.

This will come as welcome news to licensed marijuana firms in California that have long complained that illegal operators severely undercut legal sales in the state.

The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department said roughly 700 law enforcement officers served warrants at more than 118 marijuana grows in the Anza Valley, an inland region between Los Angeles and San Diego.

In addition to the plants, authorities seized more than 3,000 pounds of processed marijuana, 17 rifles and 10 handguns. Eight people were arrested.
