Medical marijuana delivery begins in San Jose, CA, after ban lifted

Seeking to capitalize on a change in local law, a cannabis delivery company launched an on-demand service to legally bring medical marijuana to patients’ homes in San Jose, California.

San Francisco-based Eaze said that MMJ patients with valid physicians recommendations can use the company’s EazeMD smartphone app to order medical cannabis, The Mercury News reported. The move came after California’s third-largest city lifted its ban on home deliveries of MMJ.

Eaze customers in San Jose can order a variety of products, ranging from pre-rolls to edibles. They will come from The Guild, one of two local dispensaries licensed to make deliveries.

San Jose banned MMJ home delivery when the Medical Marijuana Regulation and Safety Act was enacted in January 2016. Although the new law permitted home delivery, municipalities could ban the practice and many, like San Jose, chose to do so.

In response to the ban, dozens of unlicensed delivery businesses soon sprouted in San Jose. So city officials in October approved legal MMJ deliveries, the Silicon Valley Business Journal reported.

Eaze, which operates in 100 California cities, promises delivery in under 20 minutes, according to The Mercury News. The company stressed it merely acts as a delivery facilitator and its employees don’t touch any MMJ products.
