More than 270 medical cannabis dispensaries could launch in Washington, D.C., this year.

That’s according to an analysis by The Outlaw Report, which found that 276 MMJ dispensaries are in the approval process.

However, most of those applicants are considered conditional, meaning they have not secured real estate in the District.

Securing zoning approval and real estate are two of the bigger challenges facing marijuana operators nationwide.

More than 80 applicants have secured locations, and 35-plus of those have received a license and must open within 120 days, according to the D.C.-based Outlaw Report.

According to the District’s Alcoholic Beverage and Cannabis Administration, 12 MMJ dispensaries are operational in the city.

Another five are in the pipeline to open soon.
