Growers stop feeding their plants and run plain water for one to two weeks before harvest, on the understanding that it produces a cleaner, smoother, better tasting product. Flushing products promise the same. For a commercial grow, that is one to two weeks of room time at the end of every run, spent on a practice with almost no controlled research behind it.
Rx Green Technologies put it to the test. Forty-eight Cherry Diesel plants were flushed for 14, 10, 7 and 0 days, side by side in the same room on the same feed program. Each group was measured for yield, potency, terpenes, mineral content and extraction, and judged by a blind panel of cannabis industry experts.
The headline result: the length of the flush made no statistically significant difference in yield, potency or terpene content. The details are where it gets useful.
You will learn:
- The one measure where a longer flush did change the result, and the tradeoff that came with it
- Which flush the blind expert panel leaned toward on flavor and smoothness, and what that preference is worth
- Why yellowing fan leaves during a flush do not mean the flower changed
- How the results compare with a 2024 peer-reviewed study of five cultivars
