Canadian marijuana retailer and e-commerce platform provider High Tide on Tuesday announced a joint venture with Positive Intent Events (PIE) to bolster its position in Canada’s developing cannabis hospitality sector.

High Tide, Canada’s largest marijuana retail chain with 183 stores, plans to develop retail experiences at events and venues while working with PIE to create additional opportunities for cannabis pop-ups across Canada, the company said in a news release.

“The opportunities keep getting bigger and better for High Tide,” founder and CEO Raj Grover said in prepared statement.

The development comes about seven months after Alberta – Canada’s second largest adult-use market – permitted cannabis sales at age-restricted events such as music festivals and marijuana trade shows.

Both High Tide and PIE are based in Alberta.

In August, MJBizDaily reported that High Tide finalized a credit line of 15 million Canadian dollars ($10.9 million) from institutional creditors.

At the time, the operator said it planned to use proceeds for debt repayment, business development and general working-capital purposes.
