Eventbrite halting some cannabis-related event ticket sales

Eventbrite, an online platform that sells tickets to various public events, is apparently canceling sales for some – but not all – marijuana-related gatherings.

According to Forbes, Eventbrite froze accounts belonging to the New York Cannabis Film Festival and the Southern California Cannabis Business and Investment Group, even while the site continued to list other pro-cannabis events with tickets for sale.

The rejected companies apparently committed some terms of service violations, Forbes reported, though the film festival’s issues may have stemmed from a reference to CBD-infused popcorn.

Representatives for both organizations told Forbes they haven’t been able to get a solid answer from Eventbrite, and their issues remain unresolved.

Meanwhile, other marijuana-related events are still being advertised on Eventbrite, including a cannabis happy hour in Washington DC that boasts of “FREE DABS all night!” Forbes reported.

The Eventbrite issue is reminiscent of cannabis companies facing seemingly arbitrary account closures from social media platforms like Facebook and banks closing the accounts of ancillary marijuana businesses even though they don’t touch the plant.
