New Jersey lawmakers approved a historic resolution Monday that will put adult-use marijuana legalization on the 2020 ballot.

Both the New Jersey Senate and Assembly passed the resolution by the three-fifths vote necessary to place it on the ballot.

The most recent polling in New Jersey showed broad support for legalization.

“We’re optimistic that next November, New Jersey voters will replace an eight-decade-long policy disaster with a far more sensible approach to marijuana,” said Karen O’Keefe, director of state policies for the Marijuana Policy Project.
