Ontario signs up first marijuana accessories suppliers

The Ontario Cannabis Store (OSC) – the province’s government-operated wholesaler and online retailer – inked deals with 10 accessories suppliers to provide products to offer alongside recreational marijuana when sales begin next month.

The companies’ products include vaporizers, pipes and grinders.

Recreational cannabis and accessories will be sold in Ontario through the government’s online retailer until legislative requirements are in place for privately owned brick-and-mortar stores, which are expected to open in April.

Rob Morrell, head of commercial operations at Toronto-based humble+fume, said the cannabis accessory market is poised for tremendous growth.

“We peg it anywhere between CA$300 million to CA$400 million nationally in Canada after legalization,” he said. “That’s essentially saying that 5% of the cannabis industry will be sold in accessories.”

Humble+fume will provide 68 cannabis accessories for sale online in Ontario.

“Every cannabis occasion is also a cannabis accessory occasion. So from a retailer standpoint, it’s incredibly important because we know that at least one in five purchases at a dispensary includes an accessory,” Morrell said.

The OCS also signed accessories agreements with:

  • Crown Cannabis Canada
  • Maqabim Distributors
  • Hiku Brands
  • Famous Brandz
  • Aurora Cannabis Enterprises
  • Cannavolve
  • Greenlane
  • Twelve Barrels
  • HBI Canada

The OCS also added six new suppliers, bringing the number of agreements reached with licensed producers to 32. The organization did not disclose how much total product they had requisitioned from the growers.

New cannabis suppliers include:

  • WeedMD Rx
  • Canna Farms
  • United Greeneries
  • Emerald Health Therapeutics Canada
  • MediPharm Labs
  • Agrima Botanicals
