Multistate operator Trulieve Cannabis Corp. contributed another $5 million to the adult-use marijuana legalization campaign in its home state of Florida.
That donation raises the Tallahassee-headquartered MSO’s investment to try to sway voters in the state’s November election to $60 million, Florida Politics reported.
According to the St. Petersburg-based news outlet, the adult-use ballot initiative’s sponsor, Smart & Safe Florida, listed Trulieve’s latest donation in a campaign report that covers the July 13-29 period.
With Trulieve’s help, Smart & Safe has raised $66.4 million, Florida Politics reported.
If more than 60% of state voters approve Amendment 3 in November, adults 21 and older will be able to purchase recreational cannabis at existing medical marijuana treatment centers (MMTCs), as MMJ dispensaries are called in Florida.
With 143 MMTCs, Trulieve has the largest footprint on the state.
But Trulieve is not the only MSO contributing to Safe & Smart Florida. The campaign also has gotten donations from:
- Ayr Wellness, based in Miami.
- Cresco Labs, Chicago.
- Curaleaf Holdings, New York.
- Green Thumb Industries, Chicago.
- Verano Holdings Corp., Chicago.
The recreational cannabis legalization campaign faces opposition from the state’s governor, Ron DeSantis, and his recently formed Florida Freedom Fund.
