Oklahoma’s medical marijuana sales are exceeding projections, thanks to patient participation rates among the highest in the country.
The Oklahoma Medical Marijuana Authority has enrolled more than 3.5% of the state’s population as patients in its first year, according to the Tulsa World. The stronger-than-expected participation rate is near the top of all MMJ programs across the country.
The 2019 Marijuana Business Factbook recently projected that Oklahoma MMJ sales would hit $140 million-$180 million this year, a range that’s even higher than what was expected several years after market launch.
The Tulsa World report was based on the state reaching about 140,000 approved patients as of June 17.
The state has since reported 146,381 approved patients as of July 1, meaning another 6,000 have been added in the past two weeks.
Business license activity also continues to sizzle. As of July 1, state regulators had approved 3,397 grower, 1,605 dispensary and 905 processor licenses. Those numbers also continue to grow at a fairly strong clip.
Oklahoma’s medical marijuana agency attributes strong patient participation to minimal financial obstacles and a lack of restrictions on qualifying patient conditions.
