Want to find detailed information about a particular strain of medical marijuana simply by taking a picture of it?
It should come as no surprise that, yes, there is an app for that.
The Medical Cannabis Network, a Florida-based company that provides products and services to the MMJ industry, has developed a “marijuana recognition” application for iPhones.
It works like this: You take a picture of a particular kind of cannabis, upload it to the new app – called Strain Brain – and instantly receive data about the strain as well as pricing information and a list of dispensaries in the area selling it. The app uses artificial intelligence, “meaning the more people use it, the smarter it gets,” Jason Draizin, the chief executive officer of the Medical Cannabis Network, said in a press release.
While the app is aimed at patients, it could prove very useful for medical marijuana businesses as well. Dispensaries can promote the use of the app to their customers, pitching it as a way to help patients ensure are getting the exact strains they want. The dispensary locator service also could help MMCs bring in new business.
The Medical Cannabis Network also has a Web-based strain identification service. Using this site, MMJ businesses can create labels with scientific data and pricing information for each strain, providing more transparency in an industry that desperately needs it.
You can download the app via the Apple iTunes App Store by searching for Strain Brain or clicking on the “medical” tab.
