Aphria, a federally licensed medical marijuana cultivator in Canada, has been chosen to export product to Australian biotech company Medlab Clinical.

Medlab Clinical is conducting trials on the use of cannabis to manage pain in cancer patients, according to the Australian Associated Press, and will import a liquid blend of THC and CBD from Aphria for the testing. The product will be administered to patients via an oral spray.

Canadian MMJ companies increasingly have been tapping the export market.

In July, Canopy Growth Corporation of Ontario announced its Tweed Inc. subsidiary would export medical cannabis to Germany. In June, Tilray of British Columbia received permission to export cannabis to Croatia, and PharmaCielo of Toronto received a business permit to manufacture MMJ products in Colombia, which it can export to other markets.

Australia recently started taking applications from MMJ companies, but its market is nascent and it’s looking to other countries with established MMJ markets for imports.
